Resarch on illegal file sharing

Illegal file sharing is destroying the music industry!!!!

Is it? Is it really destroying the industry?

To begin with what is File sharing, as some of may be aware that when we hear a specific single by an artist we like we tend to log onto our laptops/computer to download that tune. File sharing would be peer-to-peer networking caused by people distributing or providing access to information downloaded or copied to other people, such as computer games, multimedia (audio, videos, and images).  We all know that file sharing has been around for a while now since the 1980s, in 1997 the Hotline enabled users to communicate remotely through chat and exchange file.  At this rate file sharing will continue to progress in today’s society if we don’t make a step forward.

Many would disagree to the idea that file sharing ruins the music industry but instead it helps the undiscovered talents be seen into different parts of the world. Moreover some agree that file sharing does affect the music industry as it obliterates the presentation of how that single or album is to deliver itself to people. According to recording association of America illegal file sharing is theft. “File sharing robs songwriters and recording artists of their livelihood and it also undermines the future of music itself”, quotes Cary Sherman, RIAA president of USA.  There are over a thousand software’s used by people around the globe and a huge amount of them are used illegally.

So what exactly is the music industry doing about this? It is seen as though not much is being done as there are still millions of people downloading music and sharing them illegally. By not making a move this causes more and more people to think that downloading music of the internet for free is “okay”.

WRONG! There were 129billion tracks downloaded illegally in the year of 2010, and till today it’s risen even higher. We don’t really think when we do such things, its only because we are receiving what we need for free into our phones MP3;s etc but this is costing the government as well as the music industry a lot of money.  A man stated “Why don’t they block all the different software that allows the people to download music or any other multimedia off their computers/laptops”, this man did not want to be identified and also said “File sharing seems to be selling more to people for free then CD’s, DVD’s sells to people for a price”.

Many have exclaimed that if the music industry does want to make money they should put a stop to this by either blocking the sites or automatically make people pay when downloading music. Moreover some have specifically mentioned that without file sharing there would be no way forward in discovering different kinds off music that are out there and supporting the music industry.

Statically it is said that file sharing does not interrupt with the music business industry, 50Cent (a rap artist) claims that it doesn’t hurt the artist as she/he still makes money from live shows, concerts, merchandise etc. YouTube is a good way to get fans on your side when singles or albums come out and this also motivates and shows the artists the kind of support they need they need in order to do better.

Downloading helps the people to explore new different kinds of music. Many think that file sharing should be a way of discovering new things such as new movies and also get ideas to motivate them to make or develop their own.

So the question is why is nothing being done about this? That’s a question we are all left wondering…. Questions, Questions and more Questions!

Downloads have affect on sales which is statistically from zero. It is said file sharing is the primary reason for the recent decline in music sales, reducing the financial cost of obtaining music and so on.

Did you know that every week there are more then 1 BILLION downloads of music! This participates to the financial lost in the music industry.  The consequence for this is paying back for the damage.

This article tells us about a woman that was charged for the case of file sharing.  This is how some us may end up if we either don’t change the software that we use or stop file sharing on whole.  There is much more other software such as “RealPlayer” which are legal to use when in need to download music files. The consequences are harsh so its either we find another way of downloading our files legally or face up to the charges.

I believe that file sharing be taken advantage of by the music industry because they can create ideas that would benefit them as well as the population that use different software’s such as “Kazaa”. They can help themselves by getting people to comment and view their music for a price affordable for everyone in that case no one is loosing out, moreover there is service called iTunes which is isn’t legal but allows people download files for a price but yet this isn’t enough to help the music industry.

On a whole many people have their reasons for whether file sharing is good or bad but we will never know what’s being done about it until it actually happens.

File sharing is not just a danger to the music industry, but now even to things such as publishing industry, tons of PDF files and online based novels and audiobooks are being downloaded. If you were an artist would you find it fair to have your music stolen? Most people in this case would answer ‘no’, this is something you’ve worked and put all your effort on and simply people feel free to come and rip that off.
